I agree. I think that's why they'll strike a deal, and soon. At this point it seems like pride and bitterness over a perceived "win" in the negotiations is all that's stopping the thing up.

This whole thing is nonsensicle at this point.

I would love to see some sort of data, if it exists, regarding how much the owners stand to lose if the entire season is cancelled. I want to see how that number compares to what they are gaining/losing in the various proposals.

Surely these people aren't stupid. There must be some point at which it's worth taking a less-than-ideal agreement because it will restart the revenue stream, which will ultimately be preferable to the loss of all 82 games.

I can't say I'm sad to see him stay on the continent. Any benefit from the ice time in Russia would be far outweighed by the risk of serious injury.

I was actually surprised at the solidarity at first, but after looking at things it seems big-market teams have the finances to weather any lockout storm while small-market clubs stand to save a great deal of money from a month or two of a work stoppage. Well-written article with good analysis.

I'm surprised the owners are still finding it in their best interest to retain solidarity. Why, I wonder, are the teams thriving under the current system breaking ranks and coming out in support of a plan with only minor changes to the status quo? You'd think they would benefit more from a full season under the current system than a lockout with some vague prospect of a modified approach.

This also brings up interesting legal questions regarding the noncompetitive aspects of the NHL, and whether antitrust exemption is really the best public policy moving forward.

yea he was, that dude had 30 saves with an ERA over 6.00 that year, then got traded to phillies via waivers I believe
